A cleaning checklist for the small parts

A clean cavity is only part of the job. Sticks, rims, lids, rings and the support rack need attention too.

Before the first batch

Read the current care instructions and separate only the parts the maker intends to be removed. Note dishwasher position restrictions. “Top rack only” is not the same instruction as permission to wash every part in any dishwasher position.

After serving

Inspect the rims and the places where sticks meet lids. Wash according to the manufacturer’s stated method, rinse as directed and let components dry before reassembling. Do not assume every format shares the same cleaning instructions.

Before storing

Count the reusable parts and check them against the original set. Store compatible sticks together with a model label. If a care instruction is absent, check with the manufacturer rather than inventing a heat setting, soaking method or replacement interval.
